All About the Jeans

I was in conversation with a friend that shared a really interesting story with me.  I thought that I would share with you as well.

Sometimes we stop well before we should.  My friend was working as a Manager at McDonald’s.  He had hired this young guy that he thought was just really sharp.  He stated that after a week the guy had quit, which came to surprise because he gave 120% every day that he was there.  A few weeks down the road he had ran into the kid while out on the town.  They said their hello’s and chat for a little while.  Towards the end of the conversation he had asked the kid.  “I’m sorry.  I have to ask.  This is just killing me.  I have not seen too many people work as hard as you at the store.  I was really impressed.  Why did you only work there for a week and then quit?”  The young kid replied.  “Well the truth is that I had earned the money that I needed for the pair of Jeans that I have been wanting”.  My Friend was a little surprised but decided to not speak on the topic anymore.

It was at that time that my friend asked me the following question.  “How often do we find ourselves doing this on our lives?” We work for what we want.  The moment that we achieve it we are no longer pushing ourselves to go a little further.

So my question to you is simply this…  How often do we find ourselves getting that pair of jeans that we have always wanted and do not push any further?  Have you seen this in others?

Keep pushing for the stars.  Once you achieve the “jeans” that you always wanted go and teach someone else to do the same.  Your rewards will be absolutely AMAZING!

Your Secret weapon in your success…

“There are a lot of different ways that you can become successful.   It really all depends on what you want out of life.  You can work hard all of your life and not be any further ahead then you were when you started out….  but if you really want to be successful.  You have to give of yourself.”

Had this conversation with a friend a couple of days ago and while I heard what he was saying I didn’t really hear what he was saying.  I say that it was a couple of days ago when in actuality it was more like a few years ago.   It is now that I am starting to realize that what he said to me several years ago was and is very true.  I spent the last several years trying to find a way to apply it.   But in reality I never even started.   Because in order to apply this I have to do something that not to many people are willing to do.  Die to self.  Put other people’s interest ahead of my own.  See them get ahead first and you will have your interest taken care of.

I guess that after several years and I finally understand that the best way to get ahead in life…  Is just to do the things that come naturally to us.   Be a friend, husband, father, wife, mother, daughter, brother, son…

Opening up my ears is not just listening.  It is opening up my heart to really take into account what another person is not just feeling but what makes them tick.  The moral of the story is this… you want to be successful.   Go help someone become successful in the thing that they want to be successful in first.   When that happens you begin to add a value that no amount of money can ever begin to compare to…

I do not know who was in need of this today… but I know that someone out there will read this and they will know.  That there search for success has always been there.   Look at all the friends that consider you a friend because you have always been there for them.   They will always have your back…. You have always had theirs and you have always done things for them without question.   You already have your secret weapon for success.   Go out and do more of it with more people…

When looking for that Job…. It should match up with what the recruiters are looking for too.

When looking for that Job….  It should match up with what the recruiters are looking for too.

Often times when we do resumes and make applications for jobs we fall short in the getting what we want out there.  It can be missed by some of the top recruiters… So flip it. Know what it is that they are looking for.  This is why linked in is such a great tool and social media should be part of the process…

Top recruiters are looking with a definite purpose – they do not have the time to go word for word.  If the person does not appear like they are going to fit then more than likely they are not going to fit… So what are the looking for….

Recent article discusses on how the resume should be read.  Seasoned Recruiters spend approximately 30 seconds reading the Resume. These are the things that Recruiters are looking for (read full article here)

Locality – Does the person live by the place the job is at?

Appearance – First impressions are just as important here as they are in person.  It does not mean that it has to over the top with styles and design.  They are looking to see if you are genuine, are you professional

What is your education level – If you took the time to invest in yourself they will think that you take your career serious… so accreditation’s, certificates, awards are important as well.  There is more to personal investment to your career than just your level of education.

What you did lately is not as important as the title held – They want to know what you did on a day to day basis.

What is the “Big” Picture – It’s not just about what you are currently doing as much as the skills you bring to the table.  Chronological order is not always the best route to take – what is your skill set.
